I sometimes use a braingym-type game to warm up pupils. Each letter represents one of the letters ‘L’ for left-hand, ‘R’ for right-hand, or ‘B’ for both. I choose words to be spelled targeted to the lesson, and then show the spelling on the board. We then spell out the word with our hands in the air!
You need to be careful because some pupils will wave their hands in the air (like they just don’t care), so will need to go very slow until they pick up the concept. Why not mix it up after a few weeks?
